When Energy and Design Collide

Our Renewable Energy Challenge offered a unique opportunity to explore what might happen when we set aside a few hours of design support for various challenge contributions. Made possible by our challenge sponsor, The 11th Hour Project, three designers from IDEO's San Francisco studio selected ideas that could benefit from their particilar set of expertise. Here’s what happened:

1. Don’t Waste the Waste simplified biogas production with help from their designer Emily. Contributor Simon is spearheading biogas workshops and trying to gain awareness around biogas as a viable community option for renewable energy and we hope these visuals help. Check out the playful visuals that Emily created for them.

2. Power to the People received support from their designer, Deidre, to sum up their strategic partnership and business model options in one clear infographic. 

3. Avava Systems received help from Mathew on solidifying their competitive strategy and partnership plan.

Through this experiment, we learned that a few hours of concentrated help toward a specific goal (such as visualizing a business model) is helpful in moving ideas forward quickly and producing deliverables that are easy to share with the community. We are excited to continue learning from this experiment throughout the Impact phase.
